Area 12 Langley Park Show, July 2008.
Once again the weather was well and truly against us for the 2 day Area
show this month however moving the competition onto Jamie Atkinson's superb
all weather surface was enough to encourage the members to brave the awful
weather conditions. BSJA NE members are made of stong stuff and a little
bit of rain couldn't deter them. Brian Candler, Median Course Builder was
able to build up to height and some great competition was seen over the
both days.
Christina Foley and the in form 4 year old chestnut mare Veronique W took
1st and then second place behind Elaine Campin and Azzieanti in the British
Novice classes. However Leigh-Ann Lewis ultimately scooped more points to
secure the Area British Novice Points trophy this season with her young
mare Hey Wilhemina.
Margaret Swinburn and her statuesque bay gelding Utah du Paon were popluar
winners of the Jim Little Memorial Trophy having collected further Area
points in the Scope 1.05 Adventurer class, which was won by Amy Cowan and
Whoopy BJ in a very quick time.
Sonya Roe secured the Newcomers Area trophy this season with her horse JA's
Malacoff after a second place behind Jonty Stephens and Alter Ego. Jonty,
last to go, threw caution to the wind and stormed round the course having
missed out the previous day to a superb win from Margaret Kendall and KEC
Yokohama.
Pauline Dodds and the 7 year old bay gelding Bob Cat II took the Area
Foxhunter trophy after a good round and 3rd place in the Sports Horse
Classic Blue Riband Championship/1.20m Open.
Alison Lines won the Area 12, Chris Jopling Trophy for points secured in
1.20m competitions this season with her in form string now complete
following the return of Arona.
Angie Bell won the North East of England Grace C title with a 3rd on Baby
Cruz in the 1.20m Open to the delight of owners Alan and Janice Mewes.
Finally the big class of the weekend, the High Offley Stud 1.30m
Incorporating the Northern Marine Underwriters Classic saw some fantastic
competition with Laura Stephenson and Harvey Smith's Sultano taking the
class ahead of Gareth Watchman and Temple Whats It with Alison Lines in 3rd
on Tradolin. Gareth Watchman also won the Area 12A shield for the highest
placed Area 12A member in the class.
Many thanks to our sponsors for the Area 12 show at Langley Park, Olivers
Rosettes, the O'Brien family, County Care Homes, Penrith Body Repairs, Marson Investments and
Northgate Vehicle Hire. Competitiors, spectators and sponsors alike all
agreed that a great 2 day spectacle was had by all regardless of the
weather!
